One of the more eye-catching features of T2’s interior fit-out, is the use of special ceiling panels to provide a similar curved, smooth and shell-like surface as the external shape of the terminal building. This design feature was also chosen for its cost-effectiveness and operational flexibility. The terminal’s ceiling comprises over 800 steel panels, covered by a stretched, white, canvas-like fabric. These panels are suspended from the ceiling by a cabled system and can be hinged, lowered or removed entirely on an individual basis. This design facilitates any minimal maintenance or cleaning requirements over time and also allows rows of suspended roof lights to hang between the panels to illuminate the terminal very effectively.
Within the past week, some more complex fabric panels have been installed to cover the curved internal side walls on the Landside Departures Floor as shown in the photograph.
