The curved shape of Terminal Two (T2) is visible for the first time.
The shape of the new terminal can be clearly seen after three huge curved pieces of steel that form the front of the new building were lifted into place. Together they create the curved shape of T2 that had until now only been visible in artist’s impressions.
The curved steel beams are 27m long and each one weights about 14.5 tonnes. The first phase of the main Terminal Two building contains six of these huge beams.
“It’s fantastic after many months of planning and hard work to see T2 really beginning to take shape,” said project director Ian Taylor. “We are changing the Dublin Airport skyline on a daily basis and we’ll shortly start to begin putting the skin on the steel bones of the building.”
The new terminal is costing €395 million, while the overall T2 project, which also includes Pier E, a new energy centre and an upgrade of the airport’s campus road network, has a price tag of €609 million. T2 will open to the public in April 2010.
