New Dublin Airport Reservoir Comes On-Stream

Dublin Airport Reservoir

Dublin Airport’s new underground reservoir is now fully operational.

The new reservoir, which is located near SR Technics` Hangar 6 on Castlemoate Road, was switched on at midnight on Tuesday, October 28 after several weeks of testing and commissioning.

At midnight, the old reservoir was turned off and for the first time, water from the new reservoir was pumped through the water distribution system at Dublin Airport.

The new reservoir can hold up to 14.5 million litres of water. It has been designed to hold about three days’ worth of water for the airport and will also store water for fire-fighting purposes. The new reservoir is 50% larger than old Dublin Airport reservoir, which was built near the church in the 1970s.

The new reservoir was delivered on time and on budget, as part of the utilities programme within the €2 billion Transforming Dublin Airport programme. The project was completed by John Paul Construction under the supervision of the DAA.
