Dublin Airport`s new electricity substation, which will supply considerably more power to the entire airport complex, including the T2 site, was switched on just after 8pm last night.
The hugely significant development means that electrical power will be made available to the new T2 energy centre from this evening. This means that mains power will be available on the T2 construction site for the first time.
The new substation at Dardistown, opposite the ALSAA complex, will give the DAA enough electricity to power about 30,000 homes, which is equivalent to a town about the size of Swords. This is about three times the amount of power that has come into the airport up to now.
Work on the new substation began in October 2007 and last night’s switch-on was achieved exactly on schedule.
