The Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) has awarded the final three contracts for the construction of Terminal Two.

The three contracts, which cover fit out, specialist systems and airbridges, have a combined value of more than €100 million. The awarding of the three contracts concludes the main procurement phase of T2, as all 17 construction contracts have now been placed.

Construction work at T2 started on October 1st last year. The €395 million new terminal is due to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2009 and will open to the public in April 2010 following testing and commissioning.

“The placing of these contracts is another major milestone on the road to delivering T2 and transforming the passenger experience at Dublin Airport,” said DAA Chief Executive Declan Collier.

The fit out contract, which was won by Irish construction firm PJ Hegarty, includes the floors, walls, ceilings and all other internal fittings for the new terminal. The fit out contract covers the 75,000 sq metre terminal and the 24,000 sq metre Pier E boarding gate facility.

SITA has been awarded the contract for T2’s specialist IT and communications systems. The contract covers airport systems such as check-in and flight information screens. US firm FMC Jetway, which is a subsidiary of JBT Corporation, won the airbridges contract and will install 19 of its Jetway airbridges at Pier E.

The awarding of the last three T2 contracts marks the end of more than two years of procurement for the new terminal, as the EU tender notice for the first two construction contracts was placed in June 2006.

More than 700 people are now working on T2 and the numbers employed on the project will rise to about 2,000 next year during the peak construction phase.

The T2 project includes a 75,000 sq metre new passenger terminal, a 25,000 sq metre new boarding gate pier with 19 gates, an energy efficient combined heat and power (CHP) plant, an upgrade to Dublin Airport’s campus road network and the installation of new services needed to operate the terminal.

The overall T2 project is costing €609 million while the terminal has a price tag of €395 million.
