New T2 Walkway Bridge

Another important piece in the overall T2 structure was successfully lifted into place last night, with the installation of an elevated walkway from the check-in hall.

The covered walkway will link the check-in hall with another structure, known as the vertical circulation building, which has not yet been built.

Arriving passengers will walk through the main T2 building and through the upper portion of the check-in hall before reaching ground level via lifts and stairways in the vertical circulation building.

The walkway was transported on to the site at around 1am to avoid any traffic interference.

T2 asset manager Damien Smyth described the new addition as “an important enough milestone” in the T2 project.

Construction of the vertical circulation building itself will begin in late September or early October.

The walkway was manufactured in a number of pieces in Portugal by contractors Martifer before being transported to the airport for assembly here.
