Transforming Dublin Airport

Health and Safety

It is a key priority for the DAA that each person who works in any way on the Transforming Dublin Airport construction programme, does so in a safe environment and with minimal risk of injury.

The DAA and its construction partners strive tirelessly to achieve this objective and work closely with the Health and Safety Authority to ensure the appropriate safety systems and procedures are in place and are rigorously tested.

Bearing in mind that well over ten million man hours had been expended on the overall investment programme by the end of 2009 and  that by the first quarter of 2010, up to 2,500 construction workers were present every day on the T2 site alone, the attainment of this objective represents a significant challenge.

The DAA is satisfied that during 2009, the Accident Frequency Ratio* (AFR) for the Transforming Dublin Airport Programme was 0.28; well below the target of 0.45, which in itself is below the national average for construction activity. The company is committed, in every way it can, to continue trying to improve this performance

* AFR, the industry benchmark, is defined as the ratio of accidents requiring three days absence from the construction site, to every 100,000 man hours worked.
